Attawapiskat
The Attawapiskat First Nation, the “people of the parting of the rocks,” is located at the mouth of the Attawapiskat River on James Bay. Traditionally, the Attawapiskat territory extends to the Hudson Bay coast and hundreds of kilometres inland along tributary rivers. The winter road, prepared in December, connects this isolated First Nation to other communities on the James Bay coast: Kashechewan, Fort Albany, and Moosonee.
